Virginia NORML Hosts Screening of "Weed the People” at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse

Weed the People

The acclaimed documentary "Weed the People" will be screened on Thursday, February 7 at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse at 7pm.

"Weed the People" is filmmakers Abby Epstein and Ricki Lake's unflinching look at the underground world of herbal medicine, where patients become experts on their own conditions and spend thousands of dollars on federally illegal medicines that are concocted in suburban kitchens.

Nowhere is this phenomenon more compelling than in the treatment of children, whose parents will stop at nothing to help them.

"Weed the People" has been well reviewed across the country. The L.A. Times called the film "an urgent cry for help. ...Abby Epstein’s moving documentary primarily devotes its time to five children and their families who are trying to survive using the alternative treatment."

All proceeds of the screening benefit Virginia NORML, the organization doing the work to change marijuana laws in Virginia.

“This film is an important conversation starter as the Commonwealth rolls out access to the first in-state produced medical cannabis products in 2019,” said Virginia NORML executive director, Jenn Michelle Pedini. "Virginia families, like the families in this film, have long struggled to obtain and safely provide these life-saving medicines, and finally relief is on the horizon."
